It was a glorious day for the Goon Squad that started out early morning with the Squad piling in the official Goon Limo.  I was the pilot and drove to and from the race in Amherst.  We were going to let Cougar drive but we could not find a pillow for her to sit on so she could see over the steering wheel.:-)

When the Goon Squad arrived, the parking attended took a double take and started laughing.  She told us the lot was full and that we would have to go to the next parking lot.  So, the Goon Limo went through the parking lot to turn around and all of the sudden we found one space left at the front doors to the school gym!  Perfect !

Once parked, the doors flew open and out came the Squad.  Many MVS/Trifury runners came over to say hi and were laughing and joking. It was great to see all our friends.  There were even runners coming over to take pictures of the limo!

At 11:00 AM the gun went off and off the Goons went with the beautiful "G" plastered over their chests.  This was one tough course.  The first mile was not bad and I had caught up to Hill Checkherout Man and I saw Mountain Goat ahead of us.  I talked with HCM for a little but then he put the hammer down and the talking was done.  During the entire race I had HCM and Mountain Goat in my sights.  During the downhills and flats I really pushed my hardest to catch up to them but they just kept getting faster.  From around 8.5 to 9.5 was one tough hill and the final half mile was a nice downhill.  I gave it everything I had but could not catch HCM and Mountain Goat.  I was very pleased with my effort and fitness but I was most happy for my fellow Goons that beat me.  I was very impressed and their hard work and dedication paid off.  Great job fellow Goons!

After the race I did a two mile cool down in the rain and then back to get some grub.  Food was not bad and we were able to catch up to Taz who ran for CMS and scored for his team.  Taz rules !

After some grub the Goons all piled back into the official Goon Limo and were headed out of the parking lot when one of the race directors stopped the limo to thank us for bringing fun and craziness to the race.  Yup, that is what being a Goon is all about.  See you in New Bedford.
